Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a truly remarkable event hosted by the Turkish Embassy in collaboration with the Macedonian Embassy. The concert brought together the rich traditions of Macedonia, Scotland, and Turkey, all through the mesmerizing sound of the bagpipe.
The artists performing were Sashko Mitev from Macedonia, Jim McLucas from Scotland, and Mustafa Gokay Ferah from Turkey, whose performances highlighted the unique musical heritage of each country while blending beautifully together.
In present days, when protecting our Macedonian identity, we often focus on the details that make us different from our neighbors or other cultures. This time, however, it was completely different.
The sounds of Macedonian, Scottish, and Turkish bagpipes blended seamlessly, creating a sense of harmony and mutual respect. The audience was captivated by the performances, with a warm atmosphere full of positive energy. It was a powerful reminder that culture is a bridge, not a barrier, and that music has the unique ability to bring people together across borders.
I am especially grateful to the hosts, Ambassador of Turkey Osman Koray Ertaş and Macedonian Ambassador Katerina Stavreva, for organizing such a wonderful event.
We finished the evening with a little surprise – playing and dancing to our traditional song, “Makedonsko Devojche”, which added a personal and joyful touch to the night.
Events like this remind us that while our differences are important, our shared human experiences, especially through music, can connect us in ways that words often cannot.
Last night was a true celebration of culture, talent, and the universal language of music.
